Crowsnest Trip

by Andrew on Jul.06, 2010, under Life, Photography, Travel

This post is long overdue, so here’s the pictures from the trip to the Crowsnest Pass Cass and I made. We visited my parents and did mountainy things.

We took a trip to Phillips Lake to climb Phillips Peak and do some fishing. Here’s the lake. Check the weather!

A quarry and Island Lake on the left.

This is the usual grab bag of weather.

The next day we went over to another ridge to climb it and check out the sights.

A deer checking us out on the way up the slope.

More Interesting Photos

by Andrew on May.19, 2010, under Life, Photography, Plants

We were lucky, the house we bought came with the added bonus of years worth of rich compost. It was sitting in the back ally and was invaluable when builing our garden. I think to buy this stuff would have cost a couple hundred dollars at least. Here’s Cassy mining the bin for the black gold:

Pouty Cassy is pouty:

I just thought that was a funny shot, and this is just a cool shot:

We are growing cucumbers and peas indoors against our window. We don’t have curtains for this window so I thought I might aswell shade the room with biomass. I’m growing a curtain, that is also providing food. The vines are most of the way up the bamboo trellis I built for them already. The flowers are a nice bonus. Here’s a close up of one of the many cucumbers that have already started to form.

Yesterday, the record breaking temperature day here in Edmonton was really, really nice. In fact too nice because my bulding doesn’t have A/C yet. They did however, bring in slushie machines for us. Here’s a picture of the hot building surrounded by spring blooms:

Gardening

by Andrew on Apr.28, 2010, under Animals, Environment, Photography, Plants

So Cass and I are putting in a garden in our back yard to feed ourselfs and trade food with the neighbors.  Maybe even trade food for other goods and services.  If it’s sucessfull enought maybe I’ll just quit my job and become a full time back yard gardener… hmm…

Anyways here’s a pretty picture of Cassy to dull the monotomy of reading this:

We took a trip to Red Deer where I spent the day roaming the city in search of things to do. I bought a kite at the dollar store for $1. No joke. It flew for a while after a few modifications (half the fun) before breaking in the gale force Red Deer winds.

Random ARC goose action shot!

This is the before shot, before we tore up our beautiful backyard for garden space. So long grass!

Riddick stands watching over us while we work

Progress!

Dirty, dirty girl.

Our free sod, which was gone the next day.

Finally, here’s Riddick having fun with his new toy:

Trip to the Muttart Conservatory in pictures

by Andrew on Mar.28, 2010, under Photography, Plants

Cass and I went to the Muttart last week and it was a good excuse to take some pictures and be experimental with my new camera. I’ve included a few super macro shots where the subject is really close to the lens. I am quite impressed with the results.

Light Columns in the Sky

by Andrew on Jan.31, 2010, under Life, Photography, Physics

Last Monday (Jan 25th, 2010) we were coming back from Ultimate fairly late and we saw columns of light grouped in a few areas in SE Edmonton. It wasn’t especially cold that night but I suspect there were still ice crystals in the air causing this to occur.

Our Christmas tree came from Ikea, I got it for free as they started giving them away a few days before Christmas. We didn’t have any lights for it :P

High speed night shot

by Andrew on Dec.06, 2009, under Photography, Tech

My camera has a cool setting for taking night scene shots without a tripod. It takes multiple pictures very fast and merges them together to make a single crisp image. Here’s an example taken last night. It’s the Edmonton skyline from the top of the Edmonton Ski Club. It was very cold and windy out! A snowmobile was taking people to the top of the hill for snowboarding down as the lifts aren’t going yet.
